He had always loved Port Owen and it's roughly plastered cottages. They were neatly arranged on terraces that overlooked the harbour , where pesky seagulls flew around and made a cacophony of sounds. Today though his heart was overladen with an immense dread. Now there she was in her red locks and freckled face smiling at everyone. She was leaving for Auckland and he would not even have proper chance to say goodbye . He began to walk away when he heard her voice "Simon!"   He turned around and there she was running up the hill. She was panting."Where are you going to. You can't even say goodbye," she shouted. "You were occupied . I just wanted to sit there ," he said .   He sat on a bench and she sat down next to him . "Don't be such a grouch," she said . "Should I be happy you are leaving ?" she said sadly. "We can visit each other ," she said . "I can barely afford to keep the boat running . How am I to get money to visit? Someone has to pilot it or we will lose the quota," he said . "I told you to come with me," Peggy said. "And who would take care of me folks?" Simon said . Simon was a little round but had a handsomeness about him . Peggy was pretty and had the most piercing green eyes . He had first met her at school and over the years become sweethearts. "Simon," she said as she cocked her head . He sobbed and would not let go of her when she hugged him. "I will phone every week," she shouted. As she drove away his heart sank into the murky waters of the port. The fishing season had begun and he would have to work very hard. The phone calls stopped and then the letters . She was now gone two years and he sat on the bench where he last saw her and began to write Hey Peggy, I hope this letter reaches you down in New Zealand. It's been ages since we last connected, and I can't help but feel a pang in my heart. You promised you'd always write back, no matter the distance. Yet here I am, writing this letter with a glimmer of hope that somehow it finds you, even if you've gone silent. I want you to know that my love for you hasn't faded one bit. Every night, I find myself yearning for your touch, your laughter, and just having you around. Our shared memories and whispered dreams remain vivid in my mind. But, Peggy, your absence is starting to take its toll on me. The fishing season this year has been a disaster. Day after day, we come back empty-handed, and it's getting harder to provide for my family. Our livelihood, the foundation we've built, is slipping away. I'm on the verge of losing everything we've worked so hard for. As I sit here, staring at the waves crashing against the rocks, I can't help but wonder if this letter will ever reach you. I doubt it. I doubt it will find its way to your heart or that I'll receive a response. But this is my last attempt, Peggy. The final plea from a heart that beats only for you. If this letter doesn't reach you, if our love can't bridge this distance, I'll gather the pieces of my shattered soul and find a way to move forward. It won't be easy, but I'll search for a glimmer of hope to reignite the flame we once had. If, by some miracle, this letter does find you, please remember that my love for you is unwavering. I'm begging you, Peggy, to remember the promises we made and the love we shared. Despite the storms and the miles between us, our love is stronger than any obstacle. It can weather any storm and overcome any distance. I know, deep down, that you might not respond to this letter. I know silence will be my answer. But please, hold me in your memories as I hold you in mine. Remember the love we had, and know that a part of me will always belong to you, no matter where life takes us. Take care, my love. May destiny guide you to happiness, wherever you may wander. Yours forever, Simon The sun began to come out and he went out with the boat and the last fuel he could afford. It was late when the boat came crawling back in , their backs hurting and hands blistered . They had no space for the cod and some had to be thrown back. Simon was happy . As he sat on the bench he smiled a little . At least it was a good catch today. He thought of Peggy and closed his eyes . He could almost smell her perfume . It wafted in and lifted his weary body. He could feel her warm body against his . It was so soft .   He felt her soft lips and tongue . She tasted so good . He opened his eyes thinking it was just his imagination . There were two of the most piercing eyes he had ever seen . He fainted and when he came to he was in his cottage . She was stroking his face and singing to him . She began to cry . "I'm sorry Simon. I forgot you but I always loved you. I could not carry on another day," she said . "I don't care . As long as you are here . You're going nowhere ," he said .  She smiled and knew she would never be a day without him again .
